Your choice of wedding music for your reception will ultimately determine its mood. You may choose to have a disc jockey instead of a band. This decision will allow more control over the selection of songs while a band offers that special touch and lends extra spontaneity to the occasion.

Remember good bands and DJs are always booked well in advance. If you decide on live music and want them to perform a special song be sure to let them know far enough in advance so they can add it to their repertoire.

You will want to consult with the band and give them a detailed wedding schedule so they will have time to rehearse what music or special announcements you have in mind. Write down for the band or DJ any announcements with the phonetic pronunciation of unusual names. Don't take anything for granted. If you are booking a band you will want to hear them play live before your event. The same holds for a DJ. Just because he or she is playing records doesn't mean they aren't bringing a special style to the occasion.

One final note: You should be prepared to pay the band or DJ cash or certified check. You will probably want to give the best man the money so he can handle this detail at the appropriate time.
